The BOOK….
all about Mania D, Malaria!, Matador
Extensive show of works by the three iconographic underground bands
The book project “M_Dokumente” focuses on the explicitly female perspective of the all-female bands Mania D., Malaria! and Matador on the West Berlin music and art scene from the late 1970s on.
The three bands around Bartel, Köster and Gut played concerts, released records and toured around the world in different formations from 1979 on. What stood out and was new was the self-determined appearance of the musicians, which was reflected in their music and lyrics as well as in their unique style and the genre-crossing approach of “more art in the music, more music in the art”. To this day, the three M_Bands are considered visionary, they shaped a new image of women in pop culture and are pioneers and role models for important and necessary emancipatory movements in the music industry.
With oral history documentary by and with Beate Bartel, Gudrun Gut and Bettina Köster as well as contributions by Nick Cave, Diedrich Diederichsen, Christine Hahn, Peter Bömmels, Mark Reeder, Scumeck Sabottka, and Annett Scheffel.

Uraufführung der neuen Klangarbeit für den MODELLRAUM THEATER, U-Bahn-Station Heinrich-Heine-Allee, (Zugang Heinrich-Heine Passage).
12. Februar 2021 – 28. März 2021
Für den Modellraum Theater im U-Bahnhof Heinrich-Allee hat Gudrun Gut eine atmosphärische Collage teils naturalistischer teils abstrakter Sounds komponiert.
Die drei Kanal-Installation lässt uns drei subtil komponierte und durchaus verschiedene Klangwelten durchqueren, die sich in ihrer fließenden, sich ständig versetzenden Überlagerung fast unmerklich zu einer detailreichen, mal analog, mal digital anmutenden, dennoch kohärenten Klang-Landschaft verdichten.
Vogelstimmen verschmelzen mit treibenden clubbigen Beats wie in besten Zeiten durchtanzter Raves unter freiem Himmel, wenn die Morgendämmerung am Horizont die wärmende Sonne ankündigt und der Hahn zum gemeinsamen Frühstück ruft.
Metallisch kühle Rhythmen harmonieren mit den ratternd loopenden Rolltreppen, vermengen sich mit hypnotischen Sounds archaischer oder zukünftiger Kulturen und triggern unverhofft einen Moment der Zuversicht aufs schattige Gemüt.

Dead Season Theatre
Live electronic orchestra Monika Werkstatt (Beate Bartel, Gudrun Gut, Islaja, and Pilocka Krach) meets theatre group Showcase Beat Le Mot. Together the two four-member groups take a contemporary look at the four seasons. Winter, spring, summer, autumn: In honour of the waning weather cycle, one musician and one member of Showcase Beat Le Mot take up one of the seasons, giving it shape in sound and image. The method used by the temporary music theatre collective is to alternate between fixed agreements and wild adventure. Since there’s nothing more fickle than the weather, they test out the margins of the spectacle in improvisation. Each collective provides the other with what it’s lacking: in gender, movement and technical skills. When the weathermakers step into action with their stumbling dramaturgy of quantum leaps and free association, sun storms send out psychomagnetism and glittering stardust. In the end everything winds up in the fifth season, the Dead Season.

Our new blog was inspired by Bjork’s Pitchfork article in January 2015 where she notes
the lack of photographic documentation of women at work in the studio.
Here we offer a visual catalogue of female producers, DJ’s, media artists and electronic music Performers at work.

their music in solidarity with Pussy Riot calling for freedom for imprisoned Pussy Riot
members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina.
We have heard that they may be set free, and hope that this effort increases exposure for
their cause and celebrates their liberation.
All money raised from this compilation will be donated directly to The Voice Project who is
managing the International Support Fund for Pussy Riot (voiceproject.org/pussyriot/)
